Panama Lotus Gesha

Lotus Gesha is an elusive offering produced by Ninety Plus Coffee Estates in Panama. This coffee was processed using a natural, hot-fermentation process by José Alfredo Escobar. Named after Radiohead's song "Lotus Flower," this coffee shatters expectations and makes you lose yourself in the magic of your senses.

The lotus flower is commonly found on the farm, and it has the ability to adjust the temperature of its blossoms to match the range tolerated by humans and other warm-blooded animals. When compared to the cool waterfall processing of Sillvia, Ninety Plus turns up the heat in its fermentation profile for Lotus. This proprietary method is called "Ninety Plus Hot Fermentation." It produces coffee with intense tropical fruit flavors and profound sweetness.

Lotus is produced from trees of the rare Ethiopia-derived botanical variety, Gesha, which were brought to Cental America in the 1800's. With its generally elongated beans and distinctive floral, crisp, and often very tea-like qualities, the Gesha variety continues to distinguish itself as one of the world’s most unique coffees.

This coffee is so original that it's difficult to categorize. It provokes a tremendous range of sensory association that situates it on the frontier of coffee expression, hovering somewhere between disturbing and extraordinary.
